Winsome J. Hinds

Winsome Joyce Hinds, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on October 23, 2025, in the Bronx, New York, at the age of 89.

Born in Jamaica, West Indies, Winsome lived a life defined by compassion, strength, and love. In the late 1960s, she and her husband, the late Lloyd Hinds, courageously immigrated to the United States with their young children, seeking new opportunities and a brighter future for their family.

Winsome devoted many years of her life to nursing, serving with dedication and warmth at St. Barnabas Hospital, where she cared deeply for her patients and colleagues alike. Even as a seasoned professional, her passion for learning never faded. She proudly earned her bachelor's degree from Mercy University as an adult, inspiring those around her with her drive and perseverance.

She took immense joy in the simple pleasures of life - traveling, gardening, cooking, attending galas, and most of all, spending cherished moments with her grandchildren. Her nurturing spirit, elegance, and unwavering faith in family shaped the lives of those who knew her.

Winsome is survived by her four children Mellanie (Robert), Nadine, Gary (Allison), Alecia (Wesley) and was preceded in death by her son Wayne. She is also survived by her five adored grandchildren - Liana, Jeremy, Cameron, Skylar and Meagan, her loving sisters - Edah and Judith, nieces, nephews, a goddaughter, and friends.

Her legacy lives on in her family, many of whom followed in her footsteps into Nursing, or established fulfilling careers in Corporate America and Entrepreneurship; due to the strength, kindness, and determination she instilled in them.

Winsome will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her grace, generosity, and the love she shared abundantly throughout her life.

A celebration of Winsome's life will be held on Saturday November 1, 2025 between the hours of 1:00 pm and 5:00 pm at Pelham Funeral Home, located at 64 Lincoln Ave, Pelham NY 10803. Winsome will be laid to rest on Sunday November 2, 2025 at 11:00 am at Kensico Cemetery located at 273 Lakeview Ave, Valhalla NY 10595.
