William “Bill” Harris of Pelham, New York, passed away on April 17, 2026, at the age of 78.
Born in the Bronx to William and Elizabeth Harris, Bill was the eldest of two children. He was raised in the University Heights section of the Bronx and attended the Bronx High School of Science. After graduating, he went on to attend New York University, where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering.
In his younger years, Bill enjoyed football, but he later became a voracious reader with a particular passion for history. In his later years, he spent many hours at the Pelham Library, continuing his lifelong love of learning.
Bill met his wife of 41 years, Dina, through his brother Douglas. Both engineers, they met at a party and later married at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Queens. Bill and Dina initially lived in Mount Vernon, where they raised their son, William, before moving to Pelham in 2001.
Bill worked as an Electrical Engineer for P.E. Stone. He enjoyed dining out, visiting the Bronx Zoo, and exploring museums, especially the museum of Natural History. His interests included wildlife, history, and politics.
Bill will be remembered for his humor and sharp, sarcastic wit. He was quick-minded, always cheerful, and seemed to know a great deal about any subject discussed.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Dina; his son, Will (Nancy) Harris; his brother, Douglas; and his cousins, Barbara Devine and Peggy Kohl. He will be deeply missed by Maria Argyro and Spyro. He was predeceased by his cousin, Jane. Bill will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A private gathering will be held at Pelham Funeral Home for immediate family. A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Bills name to PBS Broadcasting Radio and St. Judes Children's Hospital. For more information or to leave a condolence, please visit www.pelhamfuneral.com.
