Thomas J. Green

December 1, 1941 — May 13, 2023

Danbury, CT

Thomas J. Green of Danbury, Connecticut & Pelham, New York passed away on May 13th, 2023. He was 81 years old. Born in Mount Vernon to Thomas J. LeGare and Katherine Ahlers, Thomas was the eldest of three children. He was raised in Mount Vernon where he graduated from Mount Vernon High School.

Tom joined the Army in 1961. He was stationed in Germany where he worked as a military police officer. Thomas was a marksman, sharpshooter, and,  pistol expert. His time in the Army marked the beginning of a career in public service which would continue with many years in law enforcement.

After returning from the service Tom would meet his future wife of 58 years Barbara Aitken. They would marry in 1964 and live in Mount Vernon before moving to Pelham in 1970. Tom worked as a Patrolman in Mount Vernon before transferring to Ardsley where he served for over 20 years. Tom and Barbara raised their four children in Pelham. They moved to Texas following Tom's retirement where they lived for nearly 5 years before moving to Connecticut to be closer to their children and grandchildren.

Tom was a man who loved to read, run marathons, play NY Times crossword puzzles, and watch sports. Tom, an animal advocate, loved his many pets over the years dearly. But, most of all, Tom was a family man. He attended every sporting event for his kids, and coached little league, basketball, and football. He was his children’s biggest champion and a great source of support in both the good and difficult times. His sarcasm and wit made him one of a kind. He will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a wonderful father, beloved grandfather, and loving husband.

Tom is survived by his wife Barbara, and his children Casey (Kristen) Green, Kathy Green, Danny (Karen) Green, and Nicole (Mike) Steeger. He will be greatly missed by his 12 grandchildren; Haley, Shane, Luke, Brady, Hanna, Taylor, Jake, Carly, Heather, Brooke, Colton, and Everett. He is also survived by his brother Kenny. Thomas is predeceased by his brother Bud and both of his parents.
