Theresa Brush

Theresa Brush, a cherished resident of Brooklyn, New York, passed away suddenly on April 1st, 2024, at the age of 63. Born in Astoria, Queens, to George and Rosina Brush, Theresa was the second of four children. Raised in Brooklyn, she attended PS 165 before graduating from Franklin K Lane High School.

Throughout her youth, Theresa found joy in sports, roller-skating, and music, showcasing her talents in roller and disco dancing competitions. Following her graduation, Theresa began her career with the Board of Education. It was during this time that she crossed paths with Benjamin Lozada, her partner of thirty years. Together, they resided in Brooklyn, both working as superintendents and providing maintenance services to buildings in the area. Theresa played an integral part in the lives of Benjamin's three children, Benji, Carlos and Jessie, and was a second mother to them. Additionally, Theresa and Benjamin dedicated their time to counseling individuals battling addiction.

In her leisure moments, Theresa cherished quality time with her family and the company of their beloved dogs. She found solace in watching classic movies, attending Broadway shows, experiencing the thrill of roller coasters, and indulging in the novels of Danielle Steel. Theresa's admiration for Bruno Mars led her to witness his electrifying performances live at Barclays in Brooklyn.

Theresa will be fondly remembered for her kindness and selflessness, always prioritizing the well-being of others above her own.

She is survived by her siblings, Rosie (Charles Aigen) Finizio, Ronald Brush, and John Brush, her nephew Matthew (Amanda) Finizio, as well as her sister’s loyal four-legged companions, Bear and Boo. Theresa is preceded in death by her partner, Benjamin, and her parents, George and Rosina Brush.

A celebration of Theresa’s life will be held at the Pelham Funeral Home, located at 64 Lincoln Ave, Pelham, New York, on Monday, April 8th, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Blessed Sacrament Church, located at 198 Euclid Avenue, Brooklyn, New York, on Tuesday, April 9th, at 10 AM.
