Theresa Battaglia of Pelham, New York, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 28, 2018. She was 79 years old.
Born in the Bronx NY to Joseph Sales and Rose Simonelli. Theresa was one of five children. She was raised on Hoffman Street and attended local elementary school before graduating from Fordham High School. After graduation Theresa would meet her future husband while working as a secretary. The couple would marry on June 26th 1960 at Mount Carmel Church on 187th Street in the Bronx. They lived in the Bronx and Mount Vernon before finally settling down in Pelham.
Theresa and her husband Sam raised five children. Theresa worked for Bally Shoes in New Rochelle and Philip Stall in Pelham In her free time she enjoyed bowling and was an active member of St Catharines Church in Pelham. She enjoyed traveling, cooking, dancing and collecting ornamental elephants. She also enjoyed spending time with her friends at the senior center during her later years.
Theresa will be remembered as a loving, caring and selfless person. She was full of life and an inspiration to many. She will be remembered by her husband as a good mother, wife and person.
Theresa leaves behind her husband of 58 years Saverio (Sam), Her children; Anna, Joe, Rosemarie, Gina and Sam and their spouses. She is survived by her 8 grandchildren Rocco, Michael, Gianna, Saverio, Paul, Sophia, Victoria,Marco and her sister Marie Rispoli. She will be missed by everyone that knew her.
A celebration of Theresa's life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home, located at 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, NY, on Monday, April 2nd from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00-9:00 PM. A funeral mass will take place at St. Catherine's Church, 25 Second Avenue in Pelham, on Tuesday, April 3rd at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at St Mary's Cemetery in Portchester.
