Stephen Bailey Rhodes Jr., of Williston, North Dakota and formerly of Islip, New York, passed away on August 19, 2024, at the age of 63. Born in Southampton, New York, to Stephen Rhodes and Joanne Gannon, he was the eldest of three children.
Stephen attended Islip High School before moving to Montana with his father to work on oil rigs. Over the years, Stephen traveled throughout the Midwest, enjoying life and working in the oil industry. He had a deep love for the outdoors, which included ice fishing, playing poker, and bowling, where he was known for his impressive perfect games. His enthusiasm for life extended to his passions for his Harley Davidson, boating, and RV adventures.
Despite living far from his roots, Stephen remained a devoted New York sports fan. He proudly wore his Yankees shirt and followed the Giants and Rangers with dedication. In winter, you could find him skiing Montana and snowmobiling in North Dakota.
Later in his career, Stephen worked for the BNSF Railroad, where he was remembered by his colleagues as an outstanding worker and a truly kind-hearted individual. When not on the job, he was busy working on his home or helping his family and neighbor’s with theirs.
Stephen will be remembered for his stoic, humble, and caring nature. He was a large man with a tender heart, deeply fond of animals, especially his dogs.
He is survived by his son, Shane; his mother, Joanne; his sisters, Sheila Heppner and Sandra Rhodes (Francesca Morris), his niece, Isabelle; his nephews, Brandon, Skyler, Cole, and Christopher; and a large extended family. Stephen will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of Stephen’s life will be held at the Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, New York, on Friday, August 23rd, from 6-8 pm, with a service at 7 pm. For more information or to leave a condolence, please visit www.pelhamfuneral.com.
