Schendly Charlton of the Bronx, New York, passed away on October 28, 2026. He was 69 years old.
Schendly was born in Whitehouse, Jamaica, to Standley and Estrianna Charlton. He completed his JAMAL education, earning the equivalent of a high school diploma, before emigrating to New York in 1979 at the age of 22, seeking greater opportunities and a better future.
Determined to further his education, Schendly attended Bronx Community College, where he earned an Associate Degree in Electrical Engineering. He went on to enjoy a successful career as a Printed Circuit Board Designer, eventually advancing to the position of Senior Printed Circuit Board Designer. Throughout his career, he worked for Lucent Technologies and AT&T before retiring from Fujitsu.
It was in New York that Schendly met his future wife, and together they raised their 2 children, Tricia Charlton-James and Fabian Charlton. Family was the center of Schendly's life. He was a devoted father, a protector and provider who always placed his children's well-being and security above all else. He wanted nothing more than to see his family cared for and his children succeed.
Schendly found joy in the teachings of Jesus, spending time with his family, and especially enjoying a good barbecue prepared by himself. He was a man deeply committed to his beliefs, with a strong sense of social justice and compassion for those less fortunate. He admired the political ideals and leadership of Fidel Castro, Michael Manley, and Bernie Sanders, and believed in sharing what he had with others. His faith and convictions inspired him to help those in need and to extend kindness and generosity to everyone he encountered.
Schendly was the first to offer a helping hand or words of encouragement. He believed in looking after others, particularly the most vulnerable, and lived with a generosity of spirit that touched the lives of many. His faith, convictions, and willingness to give of himself were defining parts of who he was.
He is survived by his 2 beloved children, Tricia Charlton-James & Fabian Charlton; his cherished grandchildren, Triston Charlton and Lisette Charlton, his partner Sheila Lewis, and his siblings, Verona Tingling, Brazen Charlton, Verna Charlton, and Eula Robinson.
Schendly will be remembered for his devotion to family, his unwavering beliefs, his generous heart, and his willingness to help others. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A celebration of Schendly's life will be held on Friday November 6, 2026, between the hours of 4:00 pm and 8:00 pm at Pelham Funeral home, located at 64 Lincoln Ave, Pelham NY 10803.
