Ruth Markowe-Manning
Ruth passed away January 16, 2026. She is finally at rest after many years of dementia. Her sister, Nancy and her companion Sal were with her. Ruth was a fire ball with a gentle heart, more with animals than people. She was an iconic NYC figure, walking to work every day from E 72nd to W 57 with her two dachshunds, Moxie and Maddy.
“Staff By Manning” was a departure from the usual employment agency. Ruth specialized in placing Executive Assistants to prominent people who trusted her and became her friends. Her office, antique typewriters and art, reflected her other passion- collecting antiques and paintings-from the absurd to the classic.
Ruth’s foresight took her to early investing in City Island where she owned many properties and opened her stores “Early Ruth” and the “Happy Hoarder.” At her house on the water, she turned the beach house into a haven for all her cats. Small in frame, but larger than Iife, she remains with us forever. Her sisters, Shella and Nancy, Sal, always at her side, son Ross, many nieces and nephews, especially niece Lauren Greene
