Petra Munoz

Petra Munoz of Pelham, NY formerly of the Bronx passed away on June 6, 2022. She was 94 years old. Born in Manhattan to Rafael and Inocencia Ruiz, Petra was the only child. Petra was raised in Bronx where she attended vocational school. She studied cosmetology and would eventually work for herself in the South Bronx area.

Petra would meet her husband, Tomas Munoz, at a friendly poker game in the Bronx. They would marry on March 23, 1946 and settle in the Bronx where she would raise her children, Thomas and Denise. In her spare time, she loved to knit sweaters for her family and friends. She also loved roller skating and hosting family dinners at her home in the Bronx.

Petra would move to Florida with her husband in the late 1980s. The couple lived in Fort Lauderdale where she enjoyed the pool and making new friends. She traveled back and forth from Florida to New York so she could be with her children and grandson. 

Petra is survived by her children, Thomas Munoz and Denise Hargett. She is also survived by her grandson, William H. Hargett Jr., and his wife, Juliana Hargett. Petra will be missed by her extended family and everyone who knew her. She is predeceased by her husband Tomas Munoz.

A celebration of Petra’s life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, New York on Friday, June 10th from 4-8PM.
