Ok Hang Lee

With heavy hearts and deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Ok Hang Lee, who departed this world on May 4, 2025, at the age of 67, after a long and brave journey with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born on July 27, 1957, in Seoul, South Korea, to Bong Sik Kim and Tae Hee Lee, Ok Hang lived a life of quiet strength, resilience, and boundless devotion to her family. She was a loving sister to Tae Sun Kim, Tae Keun Kim, and Tae Sung Kim, and her warm, nurturing nature touched everyone she encountered.

On May 3, 1980, she married Myung Hun Lee, beginning a marriage that would span over four decades, built on mutual respect, devotion, and shared sacrifice. Together, they raised two children, Janet and James, who were the center of her world.

Ok Hang was the embodiment of maternal devotion—giving endlessly, loving unconditionally, and carrying the burdens of her family with quiet resilience. She devoted her life to the care and well-being of her loved ones, always placing others before herself.

After immigrating to the United States, Ok Hang and her husband ran a dry cleaning business in Pelham, New York, where she worked tirelessly as a talented seamstress for over 30 years. She dedicated herself fully to the family business and to the customers she served with care and pride.

Beyond her family and work, Ok Hang had a remarkable talent and passion for singing, which brought her great joy throughout her life. Her beautiful voice not only filled her home but also earned her public recognition. She first drew attention in a local singing competition in Koreatown, NYC, where her heartfelt performance captivated the audience. This led to an appearance on the nationally broadcast Korean TV show Challenge! Housewife Song Star (KBS), where she was honored with the People’s Choice Popularity Award—a testament to the warmth and charisma that endeared her to so many.

Though Alzheimer’s slowly took her memories from us, it never touched the essence of who she was. Her smile, her warmth, and the love she poured into her family remained until the very end. We find comfort in knowing she is now at peace, her memory forever cherished by those who had the blessing of knowing her.

A celebration of Ok Hang’s life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home, located at 64 Lincoln Ave., Pelham, NY, on Thursday, May 8, 2025, between the hours of 5:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. Interment will follow at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 9, 2025, at George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, NJ, located at 234 Paramus Rd., Paramus, NJ 07652. 1980년 5월 3일, 이명훈 님과 결혼하시어 40년이 넘는 세월을 함께 하셨습니다. 두 분의 결혼은 서로에 대한 존중과 헌신, 그리고 희생 위에 세워졌으며, 사랑하는 자녀 자넷과 제임스를 정성껏 양육하시며 가족을 삶의 중심에 두셨습니다.

이옥향 님은 진정한 어머니의 상징이었습니다. 끝없이 베풀고, 조건 없이 사랑하며, 가족의 짐을 조용히 감내하셨습니다. 가족의 행복과 안녕을 위해 자신의 삶을 헌신하셨고, 늘 남을 먼저 생각하셨습니다.

미국으로 이민하신 후에는 New York주 Westchester County에 Town of Pelham에서 남편과 함께 세탁소를 운영하시며, 30년 넘게 뛰어난 재봉사로서 성실히 일하셨습니다. 가족 사업과 고객들을 위해 온 정성을 다하시며, 자부심을 가지고 일하셨습니다.

가족과 일 외에도, 이옥향님은 노래에 대한 탁월한 재능과 열정을 지니고 계셨습니다. 그녀의 아름다운 목소리는 가족의 일상에 기쁨을 더했을 뿐만 아니라, 많은 이들에게 감동을 주었습니다. 뉴욕 코리아타운에서 열린 지역 가요제에서 진심 어린 무대로 주목을 받았으며, 이후 한국 방송 KBS의 「도전! 주부가요스타」에 출연해 ‘인기상’을 수상하셨습니다. 그녀의 따뜻한 마음과 매력이 많은 사람들의 사랑을 받았음을 보여주는 순간이었습니다.

알츠하이머가 기억을 하나씩 앗아갔지만, 그녀의 본모습은 끝까지 사라지지 않았습니다. 그녀의 미소, 따뜻함, 가족을 향한 사랑은 마지막까지 그대로였습니다. 지금 그녀가 평안한 안식 속에 계심을 믿으며, 그녀를 알았던 모든 이들의 마음속에 영원히 기억될 것입니다.
