Mary Patricia (Pat) Keepnews, a resident of Pelham Manor for nearly 60 years, died March 11, 2012, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous fight against pancreatic cancer.

A Mass of Remembrance will be held at the Chapel of the College of New Rochelle at 11:00am this Saturday, March 17, followed by a reception.

Mrs. Keepnews was the daughter of Dr. Goff Platt and Ella (Dolan) Lilly. She was a graduate of the Marymount School of New York and Immaculata High School in Washington, DC. She received a BA in Theatre from Marymount College in Tarrytown, and was also a candidate in the Masters of Fine Arts program at Catholic University in Washington, DC.

She survived her beloved husband, Lawrence W. Keepnews, an attorney who served as the Superintendant of Insurance for New York State at the time of his death in 1975. Widowed as a young mother, Mrs. Keepnews continued her volunteer commitments as she worked as a special assistant and administrative law judge for New York State Health and Human Services.

Mrs. Keepnews was compassionate, committed to helping others; her family, friends and faith were central to her life. Her personal and professional life were an inspiration to all who knew her. Always in the vanguard, Mrs. Keepnews was the first woman appointed to the board of the United Way of Westchester. She served for many years as a member of the board of the Junior League of Pelham. Her other board positions included: Marymount College Alumnae Association, Pelham Family Service, Pelham Visiting Nurse, Ursuline School, the cooperative board of Pelham Manor Gardens and served as president of the Siwanoy PTA. Pat was a member of the Pelham Country Club, the International Garden Club, and the Manor Club. She volunteered at Sound Shore Hospital Palliative Care and at the St. Vincent Supportive Care AIDS Program. As a young woman, Pat became a Directress of Our Lady of Scapular Lay Third Order Carmelite Community. She was for many years a lector and Eucharistic Minister, at both Our Lady of Perpetual Help and at the College of New Rochelle.
She is survived by: Theresa (Eric) Luskin; Patricia (Bill) O'Connor; Susanne (Walter) Renz; and James Keepnews. Also surviving are grandchildren Kathleen, Katharine, William, Thomas, Robert and Michael.

Memorial donations may be made in her name to Calvary Hospital, 1740 Eastchester Rd., Bronx, NY 10461
