Marva Elouise Miller

Marva Elouise Miller of Mount Vernon, New York, passed away on March 21, 2026. She was 84 years old. Born in Barbados to John and Millicent Belgrave, Marva was one of five children. She was raised in Barbados, where she attended school through the eighth grade.

Marva was a strong and faithful woman whose life was defined by resilience, devotion, and love for her family. She married and had five children in Barbados. After the untimely passing of her husband at a young age, Marva courageously immigrated to New York with her children in search of a better life.

She worked tirelessly while raising her five children, building a life rooted in perseverance and determination. Marva was employed as a caregiver with Local 1199 and continued working until the age of 70.

In her spare time, Marva found joy in her faith and was deeply devoted to her religious beliefs. She loved attending church, listening to religious music, and spending time with her church community. She also enjoyed taking long walks, cooking, baking, and traveling. Among her favorite places were her beloved homeland of Barbados and London, England.

Marva will be remembered as a disciplined and God-fearing woman who held firm to her values and instilled them in those around her. Her strength, faith, and unwavering dedication to her family will be cherished and remembered always.

Marva is survived by her loving children: Peterson, Harriette, Esther, and Francisco. She will also be missed by her brother, Hugh (Marva) Hewitt; her niece, Sonia; and her nephew, David. She will also be dearly missed by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son, Frederick.
