Maria Fico-Silvestro of Pelham, New York, passed away peacefully on July 25, 2026. She was 95 years old.
Born in Naples, Italy, to Rafael and Disma Bruner, Maria was one of four siblings. She was raised with a deep appreciation for family, faith, and hard work—values that remained the foundation of her life.
On June 5, 1949, Maria married Anthony Fico in Italy. Together they welcomed four children after immigrating to Pelham, New York, in search of new opportunities. They purchased and operated Franklin Market, a beloved neighborhood grocery store in Mount Vernon, where they proudly served the community for more than 40 years. Anthony passed away in July 1972.
Maria found love again and married Ralph Silvestro on September 16, 1977. They shared a wonderful and devoted marriage until Ralph's passing on May 10, 2022.
A woman of unwavering faith, Maria was a devoted parishioner of St. Catherine's Church in Pelham since 1966. She was also an active member of the Pelham Women's Club and the Pelham Senior Citizens, where she enjoyed the friendships and fellowship she found within the community.
Maria had a generous and compassionate spirit. For many years, she lovingly knitted blankets for women in need, sharing warmth and comfort with countless individuals through her kindness.
Above all else, Maria cherished her family. She is survived by her loving children, Anthony (Maria), Linda (Donald), Anna, and Cynthia. She was the proud grandmother of nine grandchildren: Anthony, Maria, Mario, Amanda, Maria, Michelle, Cynthia, Alexa, and Anthony; and the treasured great-grandmother of thirteen great-grandchildren: Gabriella, Gianna, R.J., Deanna, Dominick, Anthony, Joseph, Dante, Bobby, Jack, Silas, Luca, and Matteo. Her love, wisdom, and gentle presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Maria is predeceased by her sister, Carmela and her two brothers, Alfonso and Leo.
