Lucy Lomurno

February 14, 1932 — September 25, 2024

Dobbs Ferry

Lucy Lomurno, a resident of New Rochelle, New York, and formerly of the Bronx, passed away on September 25th, 2024, at the age of 92. She was born on February 14th, 1932, in New York City to Vincent and Anna (Giello) Ranisi. Lucy was one of four children and a proud graduate of Theodore Roosevelt High School. After finishing her studies, she began her job as a typist for Con Edison. It wasn’t long before she met the love of her life, John. Their marriage, which spanned 65 years, was filled with love, joy, and countless cherished memories. Together, they moved to the Bronx, where they built a loving home and raised their five children. Their enduring love and unwavering commitment were a testament to their faith and created a strong, united foundation for their family.

Lucy is survived by her sister Rita, her children; John (Janet) Lomurno, Angela (Ricky) Ditrio, Gina (Michael) Jacopino, Laura (Chris) Alvarez and Gerard (Irene) Lomurno. She will also be missed by her 13 grand-children and 8 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sisters, Rose and Josephine, and by her husband, John. She will be greatly missed by everyone she knew.

We all come together to celebrate the life of a remarkable woman—our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Her presence was a gift to us all, and though our hearts ache with her passing, we are filled with gratitude for the love, wisdom, and care she gave so freely throughout her life.

She was a woman of profound faith, with her relationship with God serving as the foundation of her life. Central to that faith was her deep devotion to the Virgin Mary, from whom she drew immense comfort and strength. The Holy Mother was her constant source of inspiration, guiding her selflessness and nurturing spirit. She prayed the Rosary with unwavering dedication, trusting in Mary’s protection and guidance, both for herself and her family. In so many ways, she embodied the example of the Virgin Mary—quietly strong, loving, and endlessly giving.

This deep devotion led her to travel the world in search of spiritual growth. For her, these journeys weren’t merely about visiting new places, but about deepening her connection to her faith, discovering sacred sites, and encountering God in every corner of the earth. She sought out churches and holy shrines, always eager to enrich her soul and return with lessons of faith and love to share with her loved ones.

Her heart was immense, filled with love for her family and all those around her. She carried her burdens with quiet strength, never letting them diminish her warmth or ability to give. She was selfless in the truest sense, always putting the needs of others before her own. Whether through her kind words, a gentle smile, or the countless ways she took care of those she loved, she was a constant source of comfort and care. She had a rare ability to make each of us feel valued and cherished, no matter what.

Her wisdom was another gift she shared generously. Life had taught her many lessons, and she passed them on to us with gentle guidance. She had a way of offering advice that was both thoughtful and deeply personal, grounded in love and understanding. Her words helped shape the people we are today, and her counsel will continue to guide us for years to come.

And of course, we will always remember her for the incredible meals and desserts she made. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and togetherness, where food was more than just sustenance—it was an expression of love. Each dish she prepared was crafted with care, and in every bite, you could taste her dedication to making others happy. Whether it was a special holiday feast or a simple dinner, her meals and desserts brought us together and created lasting memories.

Her selflessness, her faith, her wisdom, and her love are what defined her. She gave without hesitation, loved without limits, and made every person she encountered feel seen and cared for. Though she is no longer with us, her spirit will live on in the lessons she taught us, the love she showed us, and the example she set.

We will miss her deeply, but we take comfort in knowing that she is now at peace, embraced by the God she so faithfully served. Her legacy will continue to shine through the lives of those she touched, and we will carry her memory in our hearts forever.
