Kyong Won Dorcheus

Private memorial services will be held for Kyong Won Dorcheus, “Kay,” beloved mother of Sera Reycraft on Tuesday 31, October.

Kay was born near Seoul, Korea during the Sino-Japanese War in 1938. Having lost both of her parents at a young age, Kay survived the Korean War to become a feminist entrepreneur in the 1960’s economic miracle of South Korea. Again, an innovator, Kay emigrated to the United States in 1969 with her daughter Sera after marrying E. William Dorcheus, an official with the US Army Audit Agency. A lifelong commitment to education enabled Kay to gain credentials to enter the US Civil Service where she worked as a finance professional in Washington DC until retiring in 1988.

Kay is deeply mourned by her daughter Sera, son-in-law Tom, devoted grandchildren: Sera (Henry Hoffman); Will (Ali Reycraft); Meta (Peter Fallon); and Thad Reycraft along with nine great-grandchildren. Kay is predeceased by Bill Dorcheus, her husband of forty years.
