I remember Joe from grade school in Co-op City. Several times over the decades I've wondered what became of him, somehow knowing I was missing out on a wise and kind friendship. I'm not surprised reading now about the wonderful man he became. I remember his smile, his humor, his intelligence and his empathy. His shiny dark hair, sparkling eyes and impish grin. I will look for his digital musings and wisdom. I hope to meet him again someday in heaven. Sending deep condolences to his family. May God and sweet memories soothe your grief and comfort you.

I am so blessed to grow up in Co-op City to be Joe's close friend and classmate from early grade school. He was a spirited, kind and charismatic friend who was the glue that connected many separated groups of kids. We had lots of fun around the townhouse where he lived with a group friends we called the barnstormers. There were no barns in co-op, so we played a lot of football, ultimate frisbee, occasional D&D, had the deepest discussions and learned about and played music as we became teens. During his life and now through his passing I'm still learning lessons from Joseph…with sadness, love and gratitude you are deeply missed and I will celebrate life because that is what you would demand. I met Joseph in 3rd grade and shared several years in the same classes following that. He was extremely bright and equally kind. My sincere condolences to his family. May his memory be a blessing.

I'm so very sad at hearing the news. Joe was a good kid to me in our junior high school years. He was never mean to me or anyone I knew. He was just a great all around guy to me and a sweet kid. While we didn't see much of one another after JHS, we did connect several years later through mutual friends and through his wife Angela through Facebook. Angela and family, thank you for letting me know and please know I am deeply saddened today hearing this news. Joe was such a good kid and I'm sure a great husband, father and confidant to you. May we all meet together at the healthiest and happiest times of our lives when our time comes. God bless you all and my most sincere sympathies to the Keating family.

I just found out this morning and I am in complete shock. I haven't seen Joe in decades but I'll always remember him as a kind and friendly person. I remember hanging out with Joe and Charlie Apollo in their townhouse section (4) of Co-op City when we were kids in junior high school and I think I looked up to him back then. I always need time to process when someone from my childhood passes but my prayers go out to your family.
