Joseph LaMar Brown

Joseph LaMar Brown of Mount Vernon, NY,. passed away peacefully on Wednesday August 5, 2026. He was 86 years old.

 Joseph  was born on December 5, 1939. He entered the US Air Force at the age of 17 on December 5, 1956. In the Air Force he was a Communications Center Specialist. He had many assignments and spent almost four years overseas in Spain, North Africa and Labrador, Canada. After almost 8 years in the Air Force, he was honorably discharged at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland.

 He was a Vietnam era veteran and a member of Pelham Post 50 of the American Legion. After his discharge he took a job as a Cryptographic Operator for the National Aeronautics and Space Administration at their Headquarters in Washington, DC. After two years at NASA, he resigned and came to Mount Vernon, NY where his stepbrother lived. 

He was employed by SABANA Belgian World Airlines at Kennedy Airport. After a year he was hired at Gannett Newspapers in White Plains and worked there for 10 years. While there he was trained and became a computer programmer. He left Gannett and took a job at Lincoln First Banks. Inc., He went up the ranks at Lincoln First from Programmer Analysis, to Project Leader, Systems Officer and finally Assistant Vice President.

 When Lincoln First Banks merged with The Chase Manhattan Bank he was given the title of Second Vice President. He eventually was promoted to a full Vice President with Chase. He retired in 2001 from JPMorgan Chase Bank after 25 years. He then worked as the Technology Manager for seven years at Arthur J. Gallagher & Company in New York City. He was a volunteer member of the Mount Vernon Fire Department for over 25 years and a past president of the Westchester Emergency Communications Association. 

Joseph is survived by his loving wife Beatrice whom he married on March 6, 1971. Three sons, Anthony, James and Joseph Jr. One daughter Teresa, 11 grandchildren and a sister Mary Brown Douglas. Many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Joseph's life will be held at Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, New York, on Wednesday August 12, 2026, between the hours of 4:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. Interment will occur on Monday August 17, 2026 at 10:00 at Ferncliff Cemetery, located at 280 Secor Rd, Hartsdale NY 10530.
