Jose P. Lizarazo

Jose Policarpo Lizarazo (Joe)  passed away on December 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was 78 years old.

Born in Cúcuta, Colombia, to Carmen Cecilia and Jose Policarpo Lizarazo, he was one of six siblings. Joe emigrated to the United States at the age of 11 with his parents, settling in Pelham Parkway. He graduated from Mount St. Michael Academy and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in mathematics from Marist College.

After college, Joe began his career as a systems analyst for Uniroyal. He was instrumental in helping establish the early computer system for the New Haven Police Department, a contribution of which he was especially proud.

Joe met his future wife, Maureen, after a dinner dance in the Bronx—they first crossed paths at the famed Artie’s restaurant. They married in 1970 at St. Clare’s Church in the Bronx. The couple lived in Connecticut before moving to Colombia, where they resided for 18 years. In 1991, they returned to the United States. Together, Jose and Maureen raised three children, each of whom he cherished with all his heart.

Joe will be remembered for his sense of adventure, his entrepreneurial spirit, his willingness to help others, and above all, his unwavering love for his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Maureen; his children Meagan (David) Lizarazo, Joseph Patrick (AnnMarie) Lizarazo, and John Peter (Arrian Joy) Lizarazo; and his cherished grandchildren, Rafael and Luisa. He is also survived by his siblings Graciela, Carmen, Rebeca, Juan Pablo, and Amparo. Joe will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A celebration of Joe’s life will be held on Tuesday December 16, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, New York. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Wednesday December 17, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Mary Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, 596 City Island Ave, Bronx NY 10464.
