While working in web development as a consultant, he moved to Hawaii.  He surfed and explored the Hawaiian coastline while immersing himself in Hawaiian culture and embracing the Aloha spirit. John returned to New York in 2010. He worked for Marvel Comics and for PhotoShelter.
