JOHN T. DURNING, 71, formerly of Pelham, NY, passed away suddenly on July 30, 2013 after suffering a heart attack at his home in Springfield, MA. His family was at his side. A native of the Bronx, NY, he was the youngest of
the six children born to the late Patrick J. and Catherine Durning. He is survived by his cherished children, John T. (Pamela) Durning, Jr., Deirdre ( Lee) Borgea, and RuthAnn ( James) Thurber, his adored grandchildren, John
Patrick Durning, Isibeal and Audrey Borgea and Brittany, Kortney, Katelynn and Shylah Thurber, his sister Kathleen Byrne and brother Peter (Mary) Durning. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary T. McCormack, and brothers,
Patrick J. and Philip M. Durning. He is also survived by 22 nephews and nieces, their spouses and children.
He attended Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx and received his bachelor's degree from Fairfield University in 1966.
Following his graduation, John began his business career in sales and advertising in New York City. For many years he was a Public Relations Manager for the Consolidated Edison Company of New York. He later moved to San Diego, CA, and became an Addiction Recovery Specialist at Episcopal Community Services. He found his life work there helping many, especially young, people to recover from substance abuse and return to sobriety.
Following his retirement he moved to Springfield, MA, where he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren by whom he will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.
