Joanne M. Laufer a long time resident of Pelham, NY passed away peacefully early Thursday morning January 15th surrounded by family members.
She was 89 years old.
Joanne was born in Montreal Canada in 1925 to George and Rhoda Foster.
Moving to New York City at the age of 18, she trained to become a Registered Nurse in the Cadet Nurse Corps. She married Jerry Laufer in New York City in 1947 and together they had four children. Moving to Pelham, NY in 1961, Joanne lived there for the next 32 years and then in New Rochelle for the last 21 years.
As a member of Huguenot Memorial Church, Joanne served as a Deacon and as a Stephen Minister.
She was a long time member of The Manor Club, serving in leadership position there and in many service organizations over the years. An accomplished bridge player, tennis player and snow skier, she also loved music and reading, and the beauty in nature. But more than anything she treasured her family and friends.
Joanne will be remembered for her smiling face and warm laugh, her generosity of heart, and her commitment to service. Joanne led a rewarding life, and will be sorely missed by the many whose lives she touched.
Joanne is survived by her brother George, her sister Marian and four children: Prakash of Northampton, MA; Katherine of New York City; Susan of New Rochelle, NY; and David of Arlington, VA. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sisters Philippa Hill and Betty Alexander.
A celebration of Joanne's life will be held at Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, NY. Calling hours will be on Saturday, January 17th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.
There will be a funeral service on Sunday, January 18th at 2pm at Huguenot Memorial Church, 901 Pelhamdale Avenue, Pelham Manor, NY.
