Jean Anna Archambault Ferguson
April 27, 1938 - October 21, 2014

Jean Anna Ferguson of Pelham Manor passed away Tuesday, Oct. 21. She was 76 years of age. Born to George and Helen Archambault, she grew up in the Edgewater neighborhood of the Bronx and was educated at Villa Maria Academy, where she developed her love of community and faith and friends. She met her future husband, Barney, on a blind date set up by mutual friends. The two would be married for almost 54 years at the time of Barney's passing earlier this year.

Ever the hard working girl, Jean began working at the age of 18 to help support her family. Among her many jobs throughout the years, most important to her was her role as mother and homemaker. She would eventually become director of the Department of Housekeeping and Maintenance for the College of New Rochelle, where she worked enthusiastically for over 10 years, endearing herself to her co-workers and staff.

It is for her hospitable and loving nature that she will be best remembered. Her friends were one of the most treasured parts of her life, and she was known for her loyalty, kindness and generosity. A tireless volunteer, she gave generously of her time to organizations such as the Girl Scouts of America, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, the New Rochelle Humane Society, Accents on Antiques and Hope soup kitchen. She was never short of love to spare for her pets and her garden. Her most-loved time of year was Christmas, when she could endlessly play her favorite holiday music and entertain her many family members and friends. For over 50 years, she and Barney hosted a Christmas Eve gathering for both sides of the family, and some years the attendance was well over 50 happy guests.

Jean is predeceased by her husband, Barney, and is survived by her five children, Anne Ferguson-Rohrer (and husband Scott Rohrer) of Arlington, Va.; James Jr. (and wife Angie) of New Rochelle; Karen Cohen (and husband Mike Cohen) of the Bronx; Andrew of Phoenix, Ariz.; and Erin Ferguson Wasserburger (and husband Matt Wasserburger) of Denver, Colo. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren Joshua Rohrer, Noah Ferguson, Sebastian Wasserburger, Monika Ndreshaj and Elena Cummings; and her great-grandchild Aria Ndreshaj.

Calling hours will be held at Pelham Funeral Home on Thursday, Oct. 23, and Friday, Oct. 24, from 2 to 4 PM and 7 to 9 PM. A Catholic Mass will take place Saturday, Oct. 25, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Pelham Manor at 10 AM. Interment will follow at St. Raymond's Cemetery, Bronx.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Jean's name to the New Rochelle Humane Society, 70 Portman Rd., New Rochelle, NY, 10801; or to the Barney Ferguson Emerald Legacy Fund, P.O. Box 8603, Pelham, N.Y. 10803. For more information or to leave a condolence message, visit pelhamfuneral.com.
