Jean Collins

Jean Collins of Pelham, NY passed away on July 29, 2018. She was 89 years old.

Jean was born on August 28, 1928 in New York City to Anthony and Germana (Jennie) Taranto and was raised in the Bronx. While she was in school, she loved to play handball and continued to play till she got married. After high school, Jean worked for Chemical Bank and met her husband, William Collins. Jean and William married in St. Raymond's Church when she was 20 years old. Jean stayed in the Bronx and eventually moved to Pelham in 1967, but continued to work at Chemical bank. Jean was involved in the school PTA, cub scout leader, and devoted her time to St. Catherine's Church. She was a eucharist minister as well.

Jean will be remembered as a faithful, devoted and beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She will be remembered as a family person, loving, caring, smart and stubborn at times. She loved to decorate and refurbish furniture and complete crossword puzzles. Jean dedicated her life to her sister, Nina.

Jean is survived by her daughter, Susan (Victor) Torres, her son William (Maria) Collins, her five grandchildren, Paul, Alyssa, Victor, Robert and Rosa Jean, her great-grandson, Paul, and her brother, Robert. She was preceded in death by her husband, William, and her sister, Nina Pistone.

A celebration of Jean's life will take place at the Pelham Funeral Home, located at 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, NY, on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. A mass will take place at St. Catharine's Church, located at 25 Second Ave, Pelham, New York on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
