It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of James Mullen, affectionately known to his friends as “The Beast,” who left us peacefully on October 6, 2024, at the age of 86. Born in the Bronx, New York, on November 23, 1937, James was a larger-than-life character who brought joy and laughter to everyone around him.
James was predeceased by his beloved wife, Janice (nee Conrad), with whom he shared 57 wonderful years. He is survived by his loving children, Constance (David), John (Deanna), and Kerry (Eugene), as well as his cherished five grandchildren, Grace, Christa, Kelly, Terence, and Charlotte, who were the light of his life. He also leaves behind his extended family, including dear nieces and nephews, who will miss him dearly.
A man of simple pleasures, James had a passion for a good steak and mashed potatoes, preferably cooked by Janice. He relished a good party with friends, often heard singing “doobie be do be do.” He wasn’t afraid of wearing bright colors and preferred his drinks served in a goblet glass—no fruit, no straw! His vibrant personality and love for life made every gathering a memorable occasion. James was a devout Catholic throughout his entire life. In his final moments, while getting ready to go to Mass, his last words were a spirited “Holy Moly,” a fitting testament to his joyful spirit.
James was also known as the New York Giants' #1 fan! His enthusiasm for the team was unmatched, and he delighted in sharing the highs and lows of the game with family and friends.
A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, October 15th, at 10:00 AM at the Church of the Holy Family, located at 83 Clove Rd., New Rochelle, New York. Friends and family are invited to celebrate the remarkable life of James Mullen.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Capuchin Franciscans Province of St. Mary, in honor of James. The link for donations is capuchin.org or you can call 212-564-0759 ext. 258.
The family would like to thank the staff of Kings Harbor Multicare Center for providing exceptional care to James in his final days.
James Mullen will be deeply missed but forever remembered for his warmth, humor, and the love he shared with all who knew him. May he rest in peace.
