Funeral Funeral Mass will be at St. Catharine's Church, 25 Second Avenue, Pelham, NY on Monday at 10am

December 19, 2013 left Pelham on his journey home. He was met by his loving wife Lee and grandson Patrick, he was also predeceased by his parents, George W. Smith and Josephine Slattery, his sister Ethel Grimm and brothers Howard, Albert, John, and Quentin. Born and raised in the Bronx. The five Smith brothers all served in WWII. Ira served in the Army he rose to the rank of Technician Fourth Grade, he was very proud to serve his country. During this time he married Olympia Lee DeFilippo. After his honorable discharge he worked in the United States Post Office Branch 36 Woodlawn, NY for 36 years retired and worked at the NYAC for 25 years. Ira also served as the first and longest serving Town Constable for the Town of Pelham. After his retirement he devoted his time to care for his loving wife. He is survived by his daughters Patricia (Vincent) Kain and Sandra Lee (Charlie) Geitz and his grandchildren, David (Julie), Kevin (Ali), Guistina and Amanda and his great granddaughter Magdalena, and her mother Stacy, many devoted nieces and nephews. Also his lifelong friend Rocky Mazzola. Ira loved his yearly hunting trips upstate and helping people. Visiting hours will be at the Pelham Funeral Home Sunday December 22, 2013, 2-4 and 7-9 mass 10 AM Monday, St. Catharine's Church, Pelham, NY.
