Helen Mary Orza, 99, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, August 7, 2025.
Born in Scranton, Pennsylvania, to Stanley and Catherine Drumsta, Helen graduated from West Scranton High School before moving to New York, where she met the love of her life, Vito Orza. The couple married and made their home in the Bronx, where Helen took great pride and joy in the many accomplishments of her family.
A devout Catholic, Helen lived by the motto “Give and you shall receive.” She was a dedicated member of Blessed Sacrament Roman Catholic Church, where her kindness extended far beyond her family and friends to anyone in need.
Helen was a woman of remarkable talents—fluent in four languages, proficient in American Sign Language, a successful store owner, a skilled candy maker, and a devoted educator. She was equally known for her playful side, especially her love of checkers, and for her gourmet cooking—most famously, her unforgettable meatballs.
Helen was predeceased by her beloved husband, Vito. She is survived by her devoted daughters, Concetta (Tom) Kalman and Kate (Robert) Morgan; her cherished grandchildren, Jesse Morgan, Elizabeth (Anthony) Cotignola, James (Jasmine) Morgan, Victoria (Julian) Kalman Bowling, and Peter Kalman; and her adored great-grandchildren, Bella, Luciano, Helana, Ulysses, and Tommy.
Helen’s legacy of generosity, love, and warmth will live on in all who were blessed to know her.
A Funeral Mass will be held, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, located at 575 Fowler Ave, Pelham NY., 10803 on Wednesday August 13, 2025, at 10:00am. Interment will follow at Holy Mount Cemetery.
