Gregory Nelson Delgado of Pelham, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx, NY. He was 88 years old.
Born in New York City to Gregorio Delgado and Monserrate Pagan, Gregory was the eldest of six children. He grew up in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood with his devoted mother, graduating from Power Memorial High School in 1955 before continuing his education at Hunter College.
Faith illuminated every chapter of Gregory's life. Drawn to a religious vocation, he once intended to join the Christian Brothers, the founding order of Power Memorial High School. Yet when his mother fell ill, Gregory selflessly set aside his calling to become her caregiver, a profound act of love that would define the man he would become.
Through an introduction by her sister, Gregory met Ana Julia Rodriguez, the woman who would become his life's partner. Their courtship began when he escorted her to her senior prom, a magical evening that blossomed into a love story spanning more than six decades. They were married in June of 1963 at St. Anselm's Church in the Bronx, beginning a journey that would take them from the Bronx to Pelham in 1976, where they raised three daughters in a home filled with warmth and faith.
Gregory built a distinguished career through determination and an unwavering work ethic, rising to Vice President of Sales Administration at Longines-Wittnauer. He took immense pride in his forty years of service, treasuring not just his accomplishments but the deep, enduring friendships he cultivated along the way. After retiring from Wittnauer International in 1996, Gregory answered a different calling, serving as Parish Manager at St. Catharine's Church in Pelham for twenty years, a role that united his professional skills with his abiding faith.
Behind his humble, unassuming manner lived a man of surprising passions and hidden talents. Gregory was an excellent salsa dancer whose moves could light up any dance floor. A devoted Yankees fan, he also took to the field himself as a catcher for his company softball team. These loves - for salsa music and baseball - along with his commitment to education, became cherished gifts he passed down to his three daughters, creating bonds that transcended generations as they have achieved the highest levels in their respective fields of study, as a medical doctor (Annette), theologian (Teresa) and attorney (Denise).
Gregory is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Ana Julia; his brother Raymond; his daughters Annette (husband Pedro Portugues, son Peter), Teresa (children Francesca, Celeste, Josiah, and Xavier), and Denise Delgado-Kerman (husband Keith Kerman, sons Todd and Keith); and many nieces and nephews who treasured their Uncle Nelson. He is predeceased by his parents and four siblings, as well as his beloved son-in-law Pascal N. Kabemba (Teresa’s spouse). His gentle presence, quiet strength, and boundless love will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know him.
