Died May 9, 2012
Ellen K. Bopp, born Ellen K. DeVoe on July 19,1943 died peace fully Wednesday May 9, 2012 after a long illness with Alzheimers dis ease. Ellen was bom to Eleanor M. DeVoe and Stephen J. DeVoe, Jr. in Washington DC. Ellen spent her formative years in Bayside, Queens NY. The eldest of four children, Ellen was a wonderful sister to her beloved siblings, Diane T. Balogh, who is predeceased, brother Stephen J.' DeVoe, Ill and sister, Mary Forrett. A devout Catholic, Ellen carried her faith with her through her formative years in Queens. She graduated from St. Mary's High School in Manhasset, Long Island in 1961. She then attended Georgetown University, School of Nursing, St. Joseph's College and then received her RN from Misericordia in 1967. Ellen met the love of her life, John M. (Jack) Bopp and they were Married September 21, 1968 at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Queens, NY.

Jack was deployed to Korea for one year after their wedding. After Jack's honorable discharge, he returned to Ellen in NY and settled in Mt. Vernon, NY. Daughter Laura Ellen was born in 1970, followed by John M. Bopp Jr. in 1974, Matthew C. Bopp in 1978 and youngest daughter Karen Anne Bopp in 1982. Ellen first worked as a pediatric nurse with infants, then was a geriatric care nurse, taking a leave from nursing to care for her family, and then returning with re-certification to be an Oncology Care nurse at Sound Shore Medical Center (formerly New Rochelle Hospital Medical Center). Ellen was well respected in her field and received Nurse of the Year in 1994. On July 8,1990, Jack Bopp passed away at the age of 47, while devastated and heartbroken Ellen had four children to raise and persevered. Ellen was actively involved in her community and parish of the Holy Family in New Rochelle and volunteered her time at the HOPE soup kitchen. An innate care giver, Mrs. Bopp, KK to some and Aunt Ellen to others was always placing the needs of her children and others before her self. Ellen practiced nursing until December of 1999 when she realized that she was having trouble with her memory. Ellen enjoyed sailing, tennis, crochet, Motown music, good parties and the joy and laughter of family.

Ellen became a grandmother for the first time in 2005 with the birth of John M. Bopp Jr. and Samantha Bopp's son, John M. Bopp Ill. While she was advancing in her illness, Johnny could still illicit smiles and happiness from his Grandmother. Granddaughter Amelia Rose Bopp was born in 2009 and grandson, Henry Howard King in 2012. Ellen has survived by her loving children and grandchildren, brothers-in-law, Terry and Thomas Bopp, sisters-in law, Christine and Noel Bopp, Aunt Rita Kenny Dolan and Uncle Robert T. Dolan, 15 nieces and nephews and countless numbers of "adopted children" young and old. To have known her was to love her. We pray that she is reunited with Jack in the Kingdom of Heaven and with all the souls of the faithful departed. Wake will be at Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham NY Thursday May 10, 2012 from 2:00PM to 4:00PM and 7:00PM to 9:00PM.
