Elizabeth Haughney

Elizabeth Haughney of Pelham Manor, NY passed away on Thursday, August 25th, after an eight year brave battle with cancer. She was 58 years old. Born in Brooklyn to Robert and Mary Haughney, Liz was one of five children. After attending Cardinal Spellman High School, Liz went on to study Internal Medicine at the Sophie Davis School for Biomedical Education of CCNY and SUNY Stony Brook Medical School.

Upon completion of her residency at North Shore University Hospital, Liz set up a private practice with her long time friend and colleague Hillary Kushner. Their practice ultimately merged into what is now Northwell Health Physician Partners of Manhasset with many fine colleagues working side by side healing countless numbers of patients.

Liz was beloved by everyone who met her. She was caring, loving and happy, just like the family she grew up in. But nothing compared to the love and joy that Liz's daughter, Jessica Hope Engel brought to her life when she was born in August of 1999. Liz and Jessica had a very close and loving relationship and they loved nothing more than to be with their family. They often all traveled together on various family trips to Europe and the Caribbean creating a lifetime of wonderful memories. As long as she was with family and close friends, she was happy. Even in her illness Liz's caring nature was evident and she would try to take care of everyone around her. She was a true healer.

Liz is survived by her beloved daughter Jessica, her mother Mary Quinn Haughney as well as her brothers and sisters: Mary and Larry O'Connell, Robert and Deborah Haughney, Regina and Nicholas Silitch and Thomas and Janine Haughney. She will be lovingly remembered by her 12 nieces and nephews: Laurence and Krista O'Connell, Sarah, Emily, Thomas and Annie Haughney, Kyra, Owen and Aidan Silitch and Kathryn, Jack and Mathew Haughney. She will remain a cherished friend to Natalie Schwartz and a myriad of close friends whose lives she touched in her practice and in her community. Liz is pre-deceased by her father, Robert.

A celebration of Liz's life will take place on Sunday, August 28th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 29th at 9:45 AM at St. Clare's Church, 1918 Paulding Ave, Bronx, NY. Interment will follow the Mass at Raymond Hill Cemetery, Carmel, N.Y.
