Edith Cosentino

May 18, 1917 — March 7, 2017

Edith Cosentino, 99, a resident of the Bronx and recently of United Hebrew of New Rochelle, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on March 7, 2017. She was born on May 18, 1917 to Florence and Nicholas Letterese, the second oldest of six children. A child of the Depression, she was always aware of the importance of family helping each other. An example she set for her children and grandchildren. In 1940, she married her devoted husband Charles Cosentino in their neighborhood church Our Lady of Mt. Carmel on 115 Street in NYC, where they remained faithful and active parishioners for many years and where she served as an officer in the PTA and Rosary Altar Society. They were happily married for 64 years until his death in 2004 and she took great pride in maintaining her independence and her home in the Pelham Parkway section of the Bronx for 10 years after his death. One of the great joys of her life was learning how to drive. In 1950 she received her driver's license and she was on the road well into her eighties. She used this skill to help out when anyone needed her. She was a woman of great integrity, fairness and generosity. Her family was the most important part of her life and she unconditionally loved them. She leaves behind her sons William and Nicholas and their wives Marie and JoAnn. Her grandchildren Gregory (Anna), Matthew (Elizabeth), Carolyn (Brendan). Her great grandchildren Lucas, Charles, Matthew, Louis, and Michael, her youngest brother James Letterese, nieces, nephews and many dear cousins.
Her family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude for the exceptional care the staff of United Hebrew of New Rochelle gave her the last two years. The warmth and genuine affection she received was truly inspirational. She made new friends and United Hebrew became her home by choice.
