Yonkers, New York - Declan Owen Mullarkey, aged 60, passed away on November 25th, 2023, in New York, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Dublin to the late Thomas and Cora Mullarkey, Declan was the fourth of five children and spent his formative years in the beautiful landscapes of Co. Mayo and Co. Sligo, Ireland.

Declan's educational journey began at the Christian Brothers National School in Co. Wexford and culminated in his graduation from St. Muredachs secondary school in Ballina. Eager to pursue his passion for mechanical engineering, he continued his studies at Sligo Regional Technical College. In pursuit of professional opportunities, Declan made the courageous decision to relocate to New York, where he forged a successful career, ultimately earning the esteemed title of Operating Building Engineer with Local 94.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Declan found joy in exploring the diverse landscapes of the United States, immersing himself in all kinds of music, as well as playing the tin whistle for fun, he could be found indulging in the knowledge shared by the History and Nature Channel, and he savored the magic of all the old movies, he was especially delighted if they featured Clint Eastwood.

In 2010, Declan encountered a profound connection that would shape the next chapter of his life. He shared 14 meaningful years with his devoted partner, Kathy Drogan. Despite his demanding work schedule, Declan prioritized quality time, frequently dining out with Kathy and embarking on memorable road trips. Their shared love for live music concerts and the tranquility of Lake George became cherished moments in their journey together.

Declan will be forever remembered as a compassionate soul who placed others' needs above his own, blending sentimentality with a keen business acumen. His love for family was unwavering, and his infectious sense of humor endeared him to all who knew him.

Declan is survived by his loving partner Kathy, his sister Majella Mullarkey, and his brothers, Justin Mullarkey, who both have been by each other's side all their lives, and Patrick (Santa Maria) Mullarkey. He leaves behind three nephews, one niece, numerous cousins, and his Aunt Beatrice. Declan's memory will be cherished by a wide circle of friends and family. He is predeceased by his parents, Thomas and Cora Mullarkey, and his sister Avril who died during infancy.
