Catherine Jane Hammer Dwyer, a long time resident of Pelham, died Wednesday August 17 at Montefiore Hospital in the Bronx. She was 92.
Known to friends and family as Jane, she was born in Manhattan and grew up (from an early age) in Pelham, graduating from Saint Catherine’s School, Convent of the Sacred Heart Greenwich, CT. and later attending Trinity College in Washington, D.C.
Jane Dwyer was a retired real estate agent, home maker, and mother of 7 children. She was married for 62 years to Francis “Frank” Dwyer, an attorney and political leader in Pelham who died in 2017.
An avid tennis player at the Pelham Country Club, Jane was an active sportswoman throughout her life up until her later years. She was a member of the International Garden Club of Pelham, the Manor Club and a long time volunteer on Election Day for ballots cast at the Siwanoy School.
She is survived by her brother Ernest Henry Hammer and by 5 children: George Dwyer of Vienna, VA; Catherine Dwyer of New York, NY; and Elizabeth, Christopher, and Andrew Dwyer of Pelham, NY. Her eldest son F. Joseph Dwyer pre-deceased her in 2011.
Surviving family members also include five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
The services to honor Catherine "Jane" Dwyer’s life will be held on August 23, 2023. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church located at 559 Pelham Manor Rd., Pelham, NY 10803, starting at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Holy Mount Cemetery in Eastchester, NY.
