Carol Elaine Stevens Anderson, affectionately known as “Steves” and “Elaine,” passed away on September 17, 2026, at Lawrence Hospital at the age of 81. She was born on January 3, 1945, in Wilmington, Delaware, to Charles Taylor Stevens and Anna Aittix Stevens. She was their only child, but she grew up especially close to her cousin Robin, whom she loved like a sister.

Carol was a woman dedicated to learning, teaching, caring for others, and serving her community. She earned her B.S. in Nursing from Columbia University in 1968 and her Master of Education from Teachers College in 1985. Her career in nursing education included positions at Presbyterian Hospital, Edna McConnell Clark School of Practical Nursing, Misericordia Hospital School of Nursing, Seton College, Iona College and NYS Children's Psychiatric Hospital. She also contributed to nursing textbooks.

Carol met her husband, Alfred Anderson, while they were both working at Presbyterian Hospital, where she was his supervisor. They later married and built their home and family in Mount Vernon, New York, purchasing their home in 1975. Alfred preceded her in death on May 8, 2017. Beyond her professional career, Carol devoted herself to young people and her community. She volunteered with Girl Scouts and helped lead Troop 1624 and other troops. She also served as a Community Director for the Girl Scouts of Westchester-Putnam.

Carol leaves behind her daughter, Tracy Anderson, her son, Alfred Anderson, and her two grandsons, Bryan and Taylor Paige. She also leaves her beloved cousin Robin, extended family, friends, former colleagues, and the many people whose lives she touched throughout her years of teaching, nursing, and community service.

Family and friends will gather for a memorial service to celebrate Carol's life on Monday, September 28, 2026 from 4 pm to 8 pm at Pelham Funeral Home located at 64 Lincoln Ave., Pelham NY.
