Pelham Manor

Bridie Fitzpatrick of Pelham Manor, New York, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2026, at the age of 93.

Born in Macroom, County Cork, Ireland, Bridie was one of seven children. She was raised in the nearby village of Rylane, where she attended Rylane National School and enjoyed a happy childhood surrounded by family and friends. At the age of 16, she immigrated to Canada with her cousin Peter, settling in Montreal near her brother Timothy. After two years, she moved to Manhattan, New York, where she began building the life that would become her American dream.

Bridie worked as an accountant for a Yellow Cab company in Manhattan. It was during this time that she met the love of her life, James Fitzpatrick, from County Cavan. The couple met at a Manhattan dance hall and were married on December 2, 1956. Together they settled in the Castle Hill section of the Bronx, where they raised their seven children and created a warm and loving home.

While raising her family, Bridie worked as a nurse’s aide and was a proud member of Local 1199. Above all, she cherished her role as a wife, mother, and homemaker. She took great pride in cooking, baking, and keeping a welcoming home for her family. Bridie and James shared a love of dancing and spent many joyful evenings doing just that. She loved bowling, spending time laughing with friends and family, and rooting for her beloved New York Yankees. She never missed an opportunity to share her wonderful sense of humor and bring a smile to those around her.

Family was always at the center of Bridie’s life. She was loving, caring, generous, deeply spiritual, and fiercely independent. A woman of remarkable strength and determination, she was truly a force to be reckoned with. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly.

Bridie is survived by her children, James (Mary) Fitzpatrick, Joan McGovern, Maureen Fitzpatrick, Bernadette (Tom) Murphy, and Patrick (Elizabeth) Fitzpatrick. She is also survived by her 19 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren, who will forever cherish her memory.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, James Fitzpatrick, and by her sons, John (Carole) Fitzpatrick and Raymond (Elizabeth) Fitzpatrick.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 575 Fowler Avenue, Pelham Manor, New York, on Saturday, June 20th at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at St. Raymond’s Cemetery in the Bronx.
