ARMANDO (MARIO) J. DEIANA: A longtime resident of Mt. Vernon, NY, passed away on December 26, 2025 at the Wound Care Division of Calvary Hospital while lovingly and prayerfully attended to by Maire, his adoring wife and their devoted daughter Nicolette, both of whom never left his side.
Mario’s was born June 5, 1928 to (Giovanna-Mario) who was from Sardinia Italy and his mother Elizabeth Denisco in Mt. Vernon, NY. After high school Mario joined the Navy where he served for 3 years including in Japan and China. While serving, he was seriously wounded and spent over a year in the hospital and was honorably discharged. Mario continued his public service by joining the Mt. Vernon Police Department where he served for 25 years. He served in the youth bureau, ran the Police Athletic League and made the rank of Detective. He then served in the U.S. Post Office for 40 years, 20 of which he served as head of the union.
Mario married the love of his life, Maire, in Sacred Heart Church in Mt Vernon and were married for 56 years. They were both devoted to the Lord, daily mass and rosary and have a long history of charitable works for the poor, police organizations and the church. They were inseparable and traveled extensively throughout the world including many trips to Ireland. Maire worked in the Banking industry for nearly 40 years where she also did extensive charitable fundraising.
Mario was a Judo Brown Belt Champion and competed internationally. He had a degree in Criminology and Psychology from Westchester Community College. He also attended the F.B.I. Academy. Mario was an Emeritus member of the Knights of Columbus, I.C.A. 5th Ave. Trustee, and member of the Police Holy Name Society of Mt Vernon.
Mario is survived by: Maire, his beloved wife of 56 years, 4 children: Nicolette, Denise, Michael and Steven. He has six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews from Ireland, England and the U.S. He had one sibling, his sister Mary, who was married to N.Y.P.D. Officer Robert Mack (deceased) of the 46 pct.

A celebration of Mario's life will be held on Friday, January 2, 2026, between the hours of 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm at Pelham Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Ave, Pelham NY 10803.
A mass of Christion Burial will take place on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 10:30 am at St Peter & Paul Church, 129 E Birch Street, Mt Vernon, NY 10552
