City Island

Anthony “Tony” Valentino of City Island, New York, passed away on April 14, 2026, at the age of 78.

Born in the Bronx to Antonio and Antoinette Valentino, Tony was the eldest of five siblings. He was raised on the Grand Concourse, where he attended P.S. 79 and built the foundation for a life defined by dedication to family, country, and community.

After graduation, Tony proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He was stationed aboard the USS Constellation aircraft carrier and served on active duty from 1965 to 1968, later receiving an honorable discharge in 1971. His service remained a lifelong source of pride.

Upon returning home, Tony began working at Shopwell in Hunts Point in the produce department. It was there that he met the love of his life, Karen. The couple married aboard the Riveranda Boat and went on to raise their family on City Island, where Tony became a familiar and beloved presence.

Tony found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved fishing in the waters off City Island, bowling with friends, and hosting family barbecues during the summer. Known for his quick wit and warm personality, Tony will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, a proud patriot, and a man who brought laughter to those around him.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Karen; his children, Anthony (Julianna) Valentino and Amanda (Justin) Daza; and his cherished grandchildren, Gino and Carmine Valentino.

Tony’s family will be holding a private viewing. A Funeral Mass will be announced at a later date.
