Anna I Tirri

June 25, 1933 — May 23, 2021

Anna Tirri died peacefully at Rosary Hill Home on May 23, 2021 just shy of her 88th birthday after a 2-month battle with late-stage bladder cancer.
Anna was a resident of New Rochelle for the last several decades of her life, but she was born and raised in The Bronx, the 5th of 7 siblings, all of whom preceded her in death. She attended Walton High School, which was then an all-girl public high school and one of the first all-girl schools in New York City. After graduation, she went to work at Metropolitan Life Insurance Company as a Key Punch Operator, and spent her entire professional career there until her retirement as Manager of Data Processing.
Anna never married or had children, except for her beloved gray Russian Blue cat, Butchie, who is probably in Heaven now with Anna watching her throw a cat toy she has no intention of chasing after, over and over and over again. But she always treated her many nieces and nephews as if they were her own children, spoiling them as only aunts can do, and showering them with love and affection and handmade crocheted gifts.
Anna was a very active octogenarian and fiercely independent. Those who knew her know that she loved to laugh and delighted in being with her family and sharing stories about growing up in the Bronx and living on Barnes Avenue. She also loved to play the slots, and was known to spend an afternoon or two at the Empire City Casino in Yonkers. She loved bowling and all kinds of puzzles. If you visited her at home, you would likely end up sitting in a comfy chair in her living room watching either a classic movie or a game show, probably Family Feud, which she could watch for hours and hours and never get tired of it.
Anna was preceded in death by her parents Ciricco and Sabatina Tirri, siblings Adele Sica, Carmella Califano, Sylvia Raphael, Anthony, Frank and Billy; sister-in law Julie Tirri; brothers-in-law Rocco Sica Sr. and Frank Califano; and nephew Robert Raphael Jr. She is survived by her sisters-in-law Elisa Tirri and Evelyn Tirri; brother-in-law Robert Raphael Sr.; nephews Rocco Sica Jr., Frank Tirri Jr., Bill Tirri, Kevin Raphael, Brian Raphael, and Michael Califano; and nieces Nicole Cavalieri and Cheryl Tuohy along with many cousins and great-nieces and great-nephews. All of these she loved and touched deeply.
A celebration of her life will take place Tuesday, June 1, from 4:00 P.M to 8:00 P.M. at Pelham Manor Funeral Home, 64 Lincoln Avenue, Pelham, NY 10803, and a funeral mass on Wednesday, June 2, at 9:30 A.M. at Holy Family R.C. Church, 83 Clove Rd, New Rochelle, NY 10801. Entombment will follow at Rose Hills Memorial Park, 101 Mill Street, Putnam Valley, NY 10579.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her name to Rosary Hill Home, the palliative care facility where she was so lovingly cared for during the last weeks of her life by the Dominican Sisters of Hawthorne. https://www.rosaryhillhome.org/index.html 600 Linda Avenue, Hawthorne, NY 10532, (914) 769-0114.
