Alex V. Papa, 81, of New Rochelle, formerly of Pelham Manor, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November, 4, 2012, with his wife and family by his side. Alex was a veteran with the United States Army who fought in the Korean War and was a retired Restaurateur.

Alex will always be remembered as one who was most comfortable preparing Italian meals for friends and family or seeking out antiques or hidden treasures at garage sales. Alex was a strong and proud man who taught his children to open their hearts and homes to those less fortunate and was an active participant in the Fresh Air Fund for many years. Alex enjoyed nothing more than to vacation to Ormond Beach, Florida every year with his children and grandchildren. Alex spent the majority of his life with his family at his home in Pelham Manor and the summer's at their home in Otisville, NY. Alex was an avid NY Yankee fan, a love that he shared with his children since they were young.

Alex is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy, and his 7 children, Ann Papa-Alpiar and her husband Rick of New Rochelle, Theresa Cole and her husband Jim of Middletown, NY, Nancy Mann and her husband Sherman of Otisville, NY, Richard Papa and his wife Stephanie of Brookfield, CT, Robert Papa and his wife Yrannia of the Dominican Republic, Diane MacLean and her husband Rod of Redding, CT and Elizabeth McGowan and her husband Jack of New Rochelle, NY. Alex is also survived by 17 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Rosary Hill Home in Hawthorne, NY for the incredible care they gave to Alex as he made his final transition to everlasting life. Visiting hour will be at the Pelham Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9pm. Funeral Mass will be at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Pelham Manor, NY on Thursday, November 8,2012 at 10am. Interment St. Raymond's Cemetery.
