Adina Heron of Mount Vernon, NY, peacefully departed this life on June 7th, 2026, at the age of 83. Born in Jamaica, West Indies, Adina was one of seven sisters. She carried throughout her life the strength, resilience, determination, and vibrant spirit of her Jamaican heritage. She later met and married her former husband Henry Hall and together they built a life in Mount Vernon, NY, where they raised their family.
Adina dedicated her life to caring for others. She worked in various occupations throughout her life but her true calling was in health care. For 46 years she faithfully served as a Nursing Assistant at United Hebrew in New Rochelle, NY, where she eventually retired after a long and distinguished career.
Nursing was more than a profession for her. It was a ministry of compassion and service. She cared deeply for the elderly residents entrusted to her care and treated each person with dignity, patience, and kindness. Her dedication left a lasting impression on countless families. Many who came to know Adina during their loved ones’ stay at the nursing home requested her personally to continue caring for them after they returned home. They trusted her, appreciated her, and loved her because of the genuine care she has given so freely.
To the world Adina was a dedicated caregiver to us she was simply “Mama”
Mama was beautiful inside and out. She was strong, fearless, independent, determined, and resilient. She was also wonderfully sassy, spirited and unapologetically a spicy Jamaican woman. She had a presence that would fill a room and a personality that left a lasting impression on everyone she met. To know her is to love her.
If she believed in something, she stood firmly by it. If she set her mind on accomplishing something, there was very little that could stand in her way. She worked hard throughout her entire life not only in her career but also in raising her children, supporting her family, and building a future for those she loved. Her work ethics were unmatched and her sacrifices were countless.
After years of hard work and dedication, Adina fulfilled one of her greatest dreams by purchasing a home of her own. That home became her pride and joy. She loved caring for it, decorating it, improving it, and making it beautiful. Her gardens in both the front and back of her home flourished with colorful flowers and reflected the love and attention she poured into everything she touched. There was always a project to complete, a flower to plant, or something to make just a little prettier.
One of Adina’s greatest passions was cooking. Anyone who ever sat at her table knows exactly what a gift she had. Cooking was not simply something she did, it was one of the ways she expressed love. She could spend an entire day preparing a feast that would bring family and friends together. Jamaican favorites, American dishes, homemade carrot juice, desserts and enough food to feed everyone and then some would fill the table.
Out came the fine china the special glasses, and all the details that made every meal feel like a celebration. She served every meal with pride, generosity, and love. No one's ever left her home hungry. Looking back, we realized that it wasn't just the food that made those moments so special-it was the love she placed into every dish, every gathering, and every memory she created around the table.
Adina loved her family deeply while she may not always express her love in traditional ways, we saw it in her sacrifices her determination, her hard work and her unwavering commitment. She showed her love through actions, through service and through the countless ways she cared for those around her.
She leaves behind her loving children: Rosie Ahmid, Joan Anderson, Leighton Hall, Richard Hall, Lisa Hall, Desmond Hall and Christopher Carroll along with many cherished grandchildren, great grandchildren, extended family members and dear friends whose lives were forever touched by her presence.
Today our hearts are heavy with grief yet filled with gratitude for the blessing of having had her as our mother. We will miss her beautiful face and her beautiful smile that would brighten any room she entered. We will miss her unmistakable laugh, her personality and the warmth of her presence. We will miss hearing her voice and sharing moments around the table. We will miss the countless little things that made her uniquely “Mama”
Though our hearts are broken, we take comfort in knowing that her legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren and all those she loved and cared for throughout her life.
Mama, thank you for your love, your sacrifices, your strength. Thank you for every meal you prepared, every lesson you taught, every prayer you prayed, and every act of kindness you showed. Thank you for being our mother. We will carry your memory in our hearts forever.
While we will miss you deeply, we find peace in knowing that this is not goodbye forever. One day we will see your beautiful smile again and hear your laughter once more.
Until then, rest peacefully in the arms of the Lord.
Rest in Peace, Mama.
Forever Loved. Forever Missed. Forever Remembered.
